Heavy vehicle regulator rolls-out situational awareness solution
20/02/2020
Australia’s National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is deploying a Motorola Solutions mobility service to increase safety and productivity.

According to the company, the solution will deliver a range of information to compliance officers in the field, including heavy vehicle registration numbers, driver’s license details and more. A desktop version of the application will also be used by supervisors and system administrators to monitor information captured on the road.
The service will run for three years, with the potential to extend to seven. It is being delivered in partnership with Motorola’s application development business, Gridstone.
Speaking of the roll-out, NHVR director of information and technology Mark Radovic said:“Previously, complex daily tasks including calculating the weight of vehicles and issuing traffic infringement notices was quite a manual process.
“Now officers can complete these activities on-the-go via mobile devices and immediately send the information they capture in the field directly back to base. The application is helping our frontline personnel to gain access to NHVR intelligence data.”
Motorola Solutions managing director Con Balaskas said: “By accessing key operational data whenever and wherever they need it, NHVR’s staff can manage their daily tasks more safely and efficiently. For example, the solution quickly alerts officers to potentially dangerous issues involving vehicles and drivers.”
The solution is currently rolled out in Victoria with the deployment process continuing across the rest of the year.
NHVR administers regulations for all heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonnes.
