Super Bowl organisers deploy crime reporting app

Motorola Solutions and crime reporting app SaferWatch collaborated during this year’s NFL Super Bowl, which took place last Sunday in Miami.
According to Motorola, the app was used by approximately 10,000 staff and volunteers during the game, as well as ancillary events taking place in Miami-Dade County. The reporting technology was integrated into the company’s CommandCentral Aware software, as part of a proof of concept to provide SaferWatch with additional capability.
Speaking of the roll-out, CEO of SaferWatch Geno Roefaro said: “SaferWatch and Motorola Solutions are committed to providing law enforcement and first responders with the cutting-edge technology, tools and information they need to help keep the public safe. Teaming up for football’s big event is a great example of how the two technologies can work seamlessly together.
“Implementing SaferWatch in communities, schools and at large events has led to the disruption and prevention of many serious incidents and crimes. These include shooting threats, sex offences, drugs, guns, burglaries, domestic violence as well as [in relation to] missing persons cases. SaferWatch has also been responsible for helping to prevent multiple suicides and potential school shootings.”
Andrew Sinclair, Motorola senior vice president and general manager, software enterprise said: “This proof of concept will demonstrate how multiple information sources can be integrated in CommandCentral Aware. This will provide law enforcement with aggregated location-based information to increase their situational awareness and help their keep communities safe.”
The SaferWatch app is designed to allow members of the public to report incidents through the submission of photos, videos and text messages. During the game, potentially suspicious activity was represented via a map-based interface presented on CommandCentral Aware.
Super Bowl 54 took place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, during which the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 31 points to 20.
